There's Lots To See And Do In Burlington
US 202 has some pleasant sections near Litchfield. The Danbury News-Times writes: "Running through the heart of Connecticut, this 5.3-mile scenic stretch boasts lush meadows, tree-lined hills and the pristine Nepaug Reservoir." This couldn't be more true!
Water flows to the MDC's treatment plants exclusively from either of two surface water supplies in the northwest hills of Connecticut: the 30.3 billion gallon Barkhamsted Reservoir, or the 9.5 billion gallon Nepaug Reservoir. The water flows by gravity through pipes to the treatment facilities in West Hartford and Bloomfield, where an average of 55 million gallons of water is treated daily. The facilities treat all of the drinking water provided to MDC customers.
While the Nepaug Dam and Reservoir helps to fill the water needs of the communities that it supports, it doubles as scenic location where visitors can enjoy its beauty and wild life. The Nepaug Reservoir was what a veteran local birder called "the best he's ever seen", on Sunday April 14, 1996 spotting three Common Loons. Two Lesser Scaup and one Canvasback were seen among other waterfowl at the Nepaug reservoir on the March 21, 1999.
