Burlington Safe Harbor "Ice Capades"

Burlington, Harwinton homeowners to benefit from Connecticut's Small Cities Grant

BURLINGTON >> Numerous homes in Burlington and Harwinton will have the chance to be rehabilitated under a $300,000 Small Cities Grant awarded to the two towns, by the state of Connecticut several weeks ago.

The funding, which came from the Connecticut Department of Economic & Community Development, will be available in January 2013 and homes will be ready for work to begin in the spring.

Harwinton, Burlington communities honor victims of Newtown shooting with Vigil

BURLINGTON >> Nine days after the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, two towns came together at their shared high school to honor the victims.

Residents of Harwinton and Burlington met at Lewis S. Mills High School for a candlelight vigil Sunday evening, uniting the towns representing Regional School District 10. Both Harwinton and Burlington bore a certain resemblance to Newtown, according to Region 10 superintendent Alan Beitman, as well as a strong relationship.

Harwinton, Burlington's Safe Harbor Youth Service Bureau focused on helping teens in 2013.

Burlington >> Harwinton and Burlington are pushing to fully establish the Safe Harbor Youth Service Bureau, a professional counseling service to help teenagers, for 2013.

The Safe Harbor initiative began six months ago and was started by Burlington First Selectman, Ted Shafer.

Burlington committee using grants, public input to revitalize Town Center

Burlington >> Burlington leaders' vision for a prosperous center of town took a step forward Monday when the Village Center Plan and Development Committee met to discuss its redevelopment efforts for Library Lane.

In May 2012, First Selectman Ted Shafer approached the Board of Selectmen with an idea to create an ad hoc committee to oversee development for the center of town.

In the Hartford Magazine June 2012 Issue - Top Towns.  The Town of Burlington received an overall rating of 3 out of 30 and for Small Towns a rating of 1 out of 7.  Way to go!
