Protecting Burlington's Residents, Homes, And Businesses

Burlington's Fire Marshal's Office does a great deal all year long to keep residents and visitors in Burlington safe from fire hazards.  Working with other departments inside the community - especially the Building Department - the Fire Marshal is responsible for many things including:
  • Inspection of all public buildings and facilities regulated by the Connecticut State Fire Safety Code
  • Investigate cause, origin and circumstance of all fires and explosions
  • Issue permits for the use and transportation of explosives
  • Notification to the Labor Commission of fire hazards found in manufacturing establishments
  • Inspect all cargo tank vehicles and issue certificates of approval
  • Inspect all gasoline services stations
  • Inspect certain flammable and combustible storage tank installations
  • Inspect and enforce regulations concerning storage, use and transportation of liquefied petroleum and natural gas
  • Other hazardous materials inspection
  • Inspect and regulate all fireworks and special effects displays
  • Inspect and enforce requirements regarding sale and use of sparklers and fountains
  • Inspect tents (along with building official) as needed
  • Conduct review of plans and specifications for various occupancies and facilities being proposed within the town
  • Other various inspections as needed
  • Approve and issue burning permits of brush on residential property
