Recycle! Good For The Environment - Good for Burlington

Did you know that when you recycle you are helping the town of Burlington to dispose of waste at less cost?  It's true. In addition to helping to save our environment, recycling saves the town money. It's our job to provide a convenient place and ways for Burlington residents to dispose of most waste materials such as construction debris, brush, leaves, used waste oil, and other non-hazardous materials.

Please make sure all Trash & Recycle Barrels must be 4 ft. away from any other items, including other barrels.  Thank you.

Having trouble getting your cans to the curb, check out www.cansporter.com where you can get a discount for the Cansporter.

Residents of Burlington will get a discount on the Cansporter Waste Cart Carriers.  After entering the Cansporter website at www.cansporter.com, navigate to the "Product Line/Pricing" page.  In the upper right corner is a "Sign In" button.  Select this button and then type in: burlington for both the username and for the password.   A new "Promotional Discounts" button will appear in the left margin.  Select this and a new page with special pricing will appear.  You can then make a purchase at the discounted price.   You can also place your order by telephone by calling 831 439-8565 and mention Burlington. You will receive the same discount.

What Burlington residents need to know and do...

Starting September 1, 2008, the town began recycling all residential electronic equipment.  The town's trash hauler will no longer pick up TVs, computers, monitors, or any other electronic devices.  There will NOT be a fee charged at the Recycling Center for these items.

And, starting November 1, 2008, the town began charging a fee for the disposal of refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and humidifiers.  The town's trash hauler will still pick-up these items during the bulk pick-up months (January, April, July & October) if they display the appropriate sticker.  Residents are required to go to the Town Clerk's office and pick up a sticker to place on the item for pick-up.

It's important to remember that NO chemicals or oil based paints are accepted at the Recycling Center.  Any water-based paint containers can be opened, filled with speedy dry or cat litter, dried thoroughly, and then disposed of in your regular trash. When bringing any waste, please remember all construction debris should be no longer than 4 feet in length, sheet rock needs to be separated to be placed in a separate dumpster, we do not take stumps of any kind, all leaves have to be either loose or in recycled paper bags (NO PLASTIC!).

In the Spring (April/May) and Fall (Oct./Nov.) of each year, we also provide a specific leaf dumpster for residents.  All bagged leaves must be in recyclable paper bags.

We also offer chips that can be picked up at the intersection of Vineyard and Foote Road - across from the Foote Road Recreation Park.

Burlington will host a Household Hazardous Waste Day this year on April 14, 2012, at the Burlington Highway Garage from 9am to 1pm.  You can call Highway garage directly at (860)673-6789 ext. 8 or visit www.brrfoc.org for site information and directions.

There will also be another Household Hazardous Waste Day on May 5, 2012 at the Plainville Roadways Garage, 23 Granger Lane, Plainville off Rt. 177.
