Creating Community Through People, Parks, And Programs

The Parks and Recreation Commission was created in 1974 "to establish recreational facilities and recreational programs for the residents of the Town of Burlington".

Currently the Commission is in the process of developing the next 10 year Master Plan. The Plan will not only evaluate current facilities for maximum functionality but also will establish a practical plan for immediate and long-range action with respect to program area, facilities and finances. The end result will ensure each area and development is a component part of an overall integrated plan. The present, Commission along with all previous Commissioners have worked diligently on behalf of the residents. They volunteered countless hours serving on the Commission but also volunteering in various organizations when their children were involved with programs. They include American Legion, Burlington Junior Soccer Association, Lion's Club Winter Basketball, Little League and many others. Some Commissioners sre actively involved with the sports programs at Region #10.

Over the years, the Parks and Recreation Commission has evolved into a Policy and Advisory Board working in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation Director to offer a full complement of recreational programs and facilities. The Commission is dedicated to providing wholesome recreation opportunities to all members of the community. Through programs and facilities, they hope to promote a sense of community, family, personal growth, physical fitness and enjoyment.

The Burlington Parks & Recreation Commission meets monthly on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM.
